t is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bertram Arbesser-Rastburg, a valued figure in the field of radiocommunication, who served with dedication and excellence as Chair of ITU-R Study Group 3 (2007 – 2015).
Bertram Arbesser-Rastburg's career was marked by his commitment to advancing the science of radio-wave propagation. As Chair of ITU-R Study Group 3, he played a guiding role in shaping the study and application of radio-wave propagation in the ionized and non-ionized atmosphere. His leadership was instrumental in the development and revision of numerous ITU-R P-series recommendations that contributed to the improvement of radiocommunication systems worldwide.
Bertram's expertise and vision were not only recognized within the ITU community but also by the broader scientific and engineering communities in his various roles at the Graz University of Technology, the European Space Agency, Intelsat and EurAAP amongst many others.
Bertram had a deep passion for connecting people, advancing technology, and shaping the future of global communications. He regularly attended ITU meetings in Geneva, where he combined his love for telecommunications with meaningful discussions and friendships he cherished and spoke of warmly. His dedication to the ITU was more than just commitment—it was true love for his work.
