On the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day 2022, ITU held regional events across the world, in Bangkok, Tashkent, Cairo, Addis Ababa, Geneva, and Brasilia. BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin participated virtually in all, and additionally co-moderated a Global Dialogue on the Girls in ICT Day theme of ''Access and Safety''.
She applauded girls and young women around the world who demonstrated their eagerness to follow STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related studies and careers.
In a video message to the entire international community, Ms Bogdan-Martin highlighted the urgent need to ensure that girls and women feel safe and empowered to take part in the digital world, by removing current barriers on access and safety that hinder their participation.
''We need to inspire women and girls to step up and become designers, creators, and leaders in this fast-evolving field, so that we build a gender-equitable digital future that meets everybody's needs,'' she said. Watch her full message here.
