While meeting with the Network of Women for European Permanent Representatives in Geneva, BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin noted the importance of closing the digital gender divide in achieving meaningful, universal connectivity.
She said, ''As we start to map out the shape of some kind of 'new normal', now is the moment to make sure that women and girls are prepared to take part in the wave of digital transformation sweeping our world.''
Ms Bogdan-Martin mentioned various ITU initiatives towards this end, including the Network of Women for WTDC, launched to boost women's representation and leadership in processes for the next World Telecommunication Development Conference. Observing the success of the Network of Women for European Permanent Representatives, she invited their experiences to enhance ITU-D's Network of Women.
''Let's join hands to strengthen the institutions that help women support women,'' she said.
