BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin delivered a feature address to the 4th ARIN/CTU Public Policy Group Forum, with the theme “Caribbean Priorities Within a Changing Global Internet." She specifically spoke on ''The Connectivity Conundrum: Access, Inclusion and Digital Transformation – Trends, Challenges and Opportunities for SIDS and the World.''
Ms Bogdan-Martin noted that ''Caribbean is a diverse region which nonetheless boasts generally high levels of digital penetration.'' She remarked that the Caribbean region has worked hard to prioritize digital development, and that this commitment is bearing fruit.
She also noted that the regions many Small Island Developing States also have their own particular needs and challenges, ''from connecting widely dispersed communities to mitigating the ever-present threat that extreme weather events pose to communities and the communications infrastructure they rely on.''
Ms Bogdan-Martin conveyed that ITU stands ready to help stakeholders formulate digital development strategies, and assist them in building bridges to new partners, such as other governments, traditional telcos, OTT platform providers, and even partners from other sectors, like energy and financial services.
