On the occasion of World Children Day I attended a roundtable on Child Safety Online in Sweden, which was organized by the World Childhood Foundation and the Global Child Forum.
The event was a great platform to highlight the work that ITU is doing to promote child online safety. For 10 years, ITU has been leading a multi-stakeholder Child Online Protection Initiative to develop online safety guidelines for parents, teachers, and industry and policy makers.
I emphasized that for children, the digital world is a place of opportunity, but also risks. New technologies such as Artificial Intelligence can offer new and innovative ways to scale up efforts against child online abuse. However, we must also increase international cooperation and collaboration to protect the vulnerable.
