I am pleased to announce that on 3 March 2022, the Government of the Republic of India and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) signed an agreement on the establishment of ITU's Area Office in India.
This office, the first new addition to our regional presence in 15 years, will bring us closer to the member states in the region. The Area Office will help us strengthen our capacity in essential areas of digital transformation, such as infrastructure and digital innovation, in South Asia. It will allow ITU to advance shared regional priorities, such as reducing disparities in terms of Internet access, digital skills, and other socio-economic indicators after the COVID-19 pandemic.

I hope that this new office will accelerate our joint efforts to close the digital divide while accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing digital transformation. Please stay tuned as we bring you along this journey with us!

Ms Atsuko Okuda
Regional Director for ITU Regional Office in Asia and the Pacific
