International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) and the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)/United Nations University (UNU), will be organizing a regional Launch of the Regional E-waste Monitor for Arab States and Sharing Findings of the 2050 E-Waste Outlook in West Asia, which will be held on 1st December 2021, from 10:00 to 11:00 (CET). The online event will be conducted in Arabic, English and French with simultaneous interpretation.
The objective of the launch event is to mark the launch of a pair of publications which share a purpose of harmonizing e-waste data in the region. The Arab States Regional E-waste Monitor by ITU and UNITAR/UNU aims to provide an overview of the current e-waste situation in the region, whilst the West Asia 2050 E-waste Outlook by UNEP and UNITAR/UNU provides future projections of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market and e-waste generation in the region. The publications will enable public and private stakeholders to use the data collected to make informed decisions for e-waste management, which can help reduce e-waste generation, prevent illegal dumping, promote recycling and create jobs in the sector. The launch event will highlight some of the key e-waste statistics observed and projected, whilst providing a platform to expand the discussion based on these findings to stakeholders from across the region. The launch event will also help promote the work of ITU, UNITAR/UNU and UNEP on e-waste management in the region.
