ITU Regional Economic and Financial Forum of Telecommunications/ICTs for Latin America and the Caribbean, Nassau,Bahamas, April 21-22, 2015

ABOUT

The Forum was organized by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) of Bahamas. It took place on 21 and 22 April 2015. It was followed by the ITU-T Regional Meeting of the Study Group 3 Regional Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (SG3RG-LAC) on 22 (afternoon) to 24 April 2015. The Forum addressed, among other interesting subjects, on the future of global telecommunications in view of the growth of OTT services; Mobile Money (MM) services; relevant market definition and significant market power (SMP); approaches and best practices for Broadband costing and pricing; NGN and NGA costing methodologies and tariff policies in the region and followed up with the discussion on costing methodologies for determining the prices of International Mobile Roaming services.

PURPOSE

Creation of platforms to increase enhanced dialogue and knowledge between national regulators, policy-makers and other Telecommunication/ICT stakeholders on economic and financial issues for Latin America and the Caribbean.

PARTICIPATION

The Forum was attended by 51 delegates from 13 countries, including representatives of ministries, regulatory bodies, operators, industry and regional associations, such as Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL), Asociación Iberoamericana de Centros de Investigación y Empresas de Telecomunicaciones (AHCIET), and invited experts.
