Developing a National Emergency Telecommunication Plan for Afghanistan

Due to COVID-19, the face-to-face event was replaced by an online special workshop to develop the National Emergency Telecommunication Plan for Afghanistan, which took place on 6 and 7 April 2020. These online sessions were jointly developed with the Afghanistan Regulatory Authority (ATRA).

This event was a continuation of the first meeting that took place in Dubai in October 2019, which was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), from the U.S. Department of Commerce and with the participation and support of the Geeks Without Frontiers (Geeks).

Twenty-six (26) stakeholders from government and private sector organizations from Afghanistan involved in disaster management participated at these two sessions. This was an excellent opportunity to discuss relevant topics needed for the development of the NETP through a multi-stakeholder approach.

The overall workshop was conducted by Mr. Juan Roldan, who provided detailed information through a step-by-step approach on how to develop the NETP involving the four phases of disaster management.
