“A smart sustainable city is an innovative city that uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, environmental as well as cultural aspects”.

Recommendation ITU-T Y.4900

Smart sustainable cities have merged as a possible solution to the rapid growth of urbanization and the subsequent increase in resource consumption. Cities can harness information and communication technologies (ICT) and can accelerate people-centred digital transformation to build smarter and more sustainable and inclusive cities for their inhabitants. Digital technologies are key enablers for cities and communities seeking to drive digital transformation in a way that is smarter and more sustainable while ensuring functionality, comfort, inclusivity, safety and efficiency.
