Workshop on NGN Interconnection for the Arab Region

2-3 May 2007, Manama, Bahrain

The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union is organizing a workshop on NGN Interconnection in Manama, Bahrain, 2-3 May 2007, at the kind invitation of Bahrain Telecommunications Company (BATELCO). The workshop will take place immediately after the ITU-T/ITU-D Seminar on Standardization and Development of Next-Generation Networks for the Arab Region, Manama (Bahrain), 29 April-2 May 2007.

The objective of the interconnection workshop is to look at the challenges for regulatory and policy frameworks associated with the deployment of Next-Generation Networks (NGN) in the region. It will focus, in particular, on what kinds of interconnection arrangements make sense in an NGN world. It will provide a unique opportunity to develop a common understanding of the current issues, looking at whether NGN interconnection is likely to require regulatory intervention or if it can be achieved through commercial negotiations; what new competitive bottlenecks are likely to arise in the NGN environment and how to handle the migratory phase when multiple networks are in use.

Any presentations and contributions for the organization of the workshop will be highly appreciated and should be notified electronically to the ITU, no later than 31 March 2007, to Ms. Susan Schorr, email: NGNBahrain@itu.int.
