The above dimensions can be reclassified into four overarching pillars incorporating the different attributes (illustrated in the outer ring of Figure 2): Economy – The city must be able to thrive – e.g. jobs, growth, and finance. Governance – The city must be robust in its ability to administer policies and pull together the different elements. Environment66 – The city must be sustainable in its functioning for future generations. Society – The city is for its inhabitants (the citizens).
