OpenSpace Workshops 71 Thursday 27.10.2011 11:00-12:30 WorkSpace #2 The Big Question: how can we develop an international index to compare Digital Cities across the world? The growing importance of ICTs and the need to close the digital divide have led to a plethora of government plans. There are thousands of cities working on digital cities projects. These initiatives range from the municipal level, to national broadband plans, to regional digital agendas. The policies being implemented include aspects as varied as the development of trans-national infrastructure, the adoption of new application solutions for administrative procedures, the distribution of computers in the educational field, digital literacy plans and more. In most cases, those plans run simultaneously and are changing the way people interact with governments, other citizens and companies. There are also many studies that measure the success of these policies using a diverse group of metrics, and e administrations with digital indicators to track the evolution of their plans. But there is no single common set of indicators. This workshop is open to anyone interested in sharing their experiences and knowledge of digital cities, and in finding a way to measure the impact of their digital cities policies. Participants will leave having collectively explored and learned from the research carried out by Convergencia Latina in Latin America. Together, they will consider whether this research is applicable to other countries across the world. OpenSpaceWorkshop Global Digital Cities Index
