Phenomena such as Google’s success have little to do with IP protection and everything to do with speed of innovation. While intellectual property rules can help spur innovation, too much protection can strangle creativity and hamper innovation. New, more flexible frameworks have to be developed that allow innovation and content to flourish. How can we develop innovation cultures and nurture the creative and innovative spirit of the people in our organizations and nations? What tools are available or could be developed to support innovation? New open innovation models, enabled by the open Internet, enable customers to become innovators, while allowing big companies to externalise their R&D processes. How do we make sure the right structures are in place to identify new business opportunities between sectors and industries?
