ITU Telecom World 2009 In Review Participants noted with satisfaction the level of participation and interaction at the Forum sessions. Participants noted some key topics;. The institutionaliza-tion of green ICT, setting standards for equipments lowering CO2 emissions, accessibility of ICTs for persons with special needs. This was said to be the task of the government. Another panelist highlighted the high quality of the speakers, the level of the interaction, and the quality of the participants. He also mentioned the great op-portunities for effectively networking at the event and how they felt the themes covered were truly relevant to the industry. The most important Forum session topics emphasized were the development of mobile broadband and ICT con-vergence, development of applications, and the role of regulation and how it is a prerequisite for growth. Some comments were made on previous Forum sessions. Regarding the ques-tion of security, it was noted that there is need to strike a balance between pri-vacy and security, protecting youth, protecting all the people, on the one hand, and also openness, access, and speed on the other. And this balance is not always easy to find. It was also mentioned that a change of mindset happened which should be also brought to the external world and to the customers. And this is about the realization that not everything can be free. Everything cannot be free on the internet, and everything cannot be free in telecommunications and we cannot have telecommunications for nothing. Otherwise, there would be less creation, innovation, lower quality infrastructure. If customers are seek-ing content-rich product offerings then providers need to be able to charge the customer accordingly, and for the customer to understand the value of this., Some panelists gave their views on future Forum format. One panelist wants to see some more provocative questions by the moderators. He would also like to see more economics and finance: developing business cases, developing new KPIs and financial structuring as these could all be interesting topics for the future. 147 Forum Summary Report
