October 07 Wednesday 16:30 – 18:00 Session GREEN.3 Room E Measuring up: goodbye to green washing There has been much recent innovation in Green ICT and more energy-efficient devices and power supplies. But measures for comparing solutions or measuring the impact of ICTs on reducing energy consumption in other sectors are limited. The recently established ITU-T Focus Group on ICT and Climate Change seeks to develop a methodology to describe and estimate the energy consumption of ICTs over their entire lifecycle. Better measurement methodologies are vital to help advance Green ICT. KEY QUESTIONS: – How can different green products be compared? – Is it possible to come up with meaningful metrics for the green industry? – Can measurements be developed and applied to other domains, such as government policy? Is there a need to coordinate these various efforts? – What are the KPIs for successful sustainable business practices?
