October 06 Tuesday 14:30 – 16:00 Session TECH.1 Room K Innovating towards new wireless networks The transition to all-IP broadband networks in fixed and mobile environments is transforming the telecommunication/ICT industry as we know it. Growing demand for broadband is clear. However, unlike traditional voice services, broadband revenues are not directly related to broadband traffic volumes. Widespread access to broadband services in all countries is only possible, if new and more efficient network technologies, many of which will be wireless based, can be deployed. Future networks will need to deliver seamless connectivity between devices, networks, services and applications for a globally interoperable future ICT infrastructure. KEY QUESTIONS: – What will fully converged mobile and fixed broadband services look like? – What are the implications of these technologies on network development and service provision ? What are the implications of these technologies on markets? Moderator Mr Valery Timofeev, Director, Radiocommunications Bureau (BR), International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Panellists Mr Adrian Scrase, Head of 3GPP Mobile Competence Centre, ETSI (France) Dr Yutaka Yasuda, Vice President, General Manager, Technology Sector, KDDI Corporation (Japan) Mr Barry West, President International and Chief Architect, Clearwire (United States) Mr Sen Zhao, Deputy Secretary-General, TDIA (China) Prof. Yuri Gromakov, Director General, OJSC Intellect Telecom (Russian Federation) 22
