Allow me also to thank the leadership and the people of Mexico for the warm wel-come accorded to the Malawi delegation here in the City of Guadalajara. Mr Chairman let me also extend Malawi’s warmest con-gratulations to the people of African Countries who are celebrating 50 years of Independence in 2010. We also extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of the Republic of Nigeria for the loss of lives during their 50th Annivesary of Independence celebrations. Mr Chairman allow me to assure you that Malawi is com-mitted to the use of ICT for good governance that result into social economic development, reduction of corrup-tion, increased transparency and accountability as well as continued food security at all levels, just to mention but a few of the integral part of the Malawi Development Growth Strategies. Mr Chairman, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, the ICT Sector in Malawi is now fast growing with two mobile operators, 2 fixed phone operators and several Internet Service Providers (ISP) and several sound and television broadcasters as well as several courier operators. Within the same time frame we hope to conclude the review of Malawi’s Communications Act as well as introducing a Unified Licensing Structure aimed at fully liberalizing ICT Sector in Malawi. Mr Chairman, I would also like to mention that while Malawi procures off shelve software applications we are also trying to develop local software applications, we are also training and sensitizing public servants on use of ICT 188
