Mr Catalin MARINESCU President, National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania Day by day, it becomes clearer that telecommunica-tions are the front line of the global challenges that we are facing nowadays. Connecting people to the global economy, bringing administrations closer to their citizens, addressing climate changes, providing quality education to billions, saving lives in disaster areas, ensuring a safe cyber environment or con-tributing to an equity-based society are more than the ITU`s scope, they are world shaping initiatives. Ladies and gentlemen, I say this with great responsi-bility: we are here to change the world. Ever since it became a member of ITU back in 1866, Romania has had an active international role by participating at all major activities conducted by the ITU, has contributed to the decision making in its four consecutive mandates as a Council member and has provided its expertise to the working groups within the ITU, the UPU, or the CEPT. The Romanian Government acknowledges the sta-tus of national priority of communications and in-formation technology, as the development of IT&C Mr. Chairman; can boost economic growth, guarantee the respect of fundamental human rights and provide infra-structure Mr. Secretary-General of the ITU; for a new modern society. Excellencies; Today, Romania wishes to renew its commitments towards the ITU and towards the fellow Member States, and to further collaborate to the benefit of all the consumers of telecommunications services around the globe. Therefore, I am honoured to offi-cially Honoured delegates; Ladies and gentlemen; announce that Romania has decided to dou-ble its contribution to the ITU.
