As Director of Mission Operations at Planet, her strategic leadership has been pivotal in building a multi-mission operations team that now manages the world&#039;s largest Earth Observation satellite fleet in Europe.\r\n\r\nSince joining Planet in 2014, she has led the operations and safe sunsetting of the legacy RapidEye constellation before scaling the operational framework for the PlanetScope constellation, growing the team&#039;s oversight from tens to hundreds of satellites. Her team now oversees all of Planet&#039;s diverse constellations\u2014including Doves, SkySats, Tanager, and Pelicans\u2014applying consistent principles of optimization to ensure efficient data delivery to customers. From 2014 to 2020, she held multiple roles at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), working on international relations, legal affairs, and external engagement. In this role, she focuses on the development and implementation of an approach to international coordination on space situational awareness and space traffic coordination. She also works directly with the team developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS), which will provide space safety services to civil and commercial users around the world. Dr. Borowitz joins the office as part of a three-year detail under the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) program. Dr. Borowitz is also an Associate Professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology and head of the Nunn School Program on International Affairs, Science, and Technology. He is fascinated by exponential technologies, integrating ideas from disparate industries, and creating space infrastructure upon which generations of progress can be made. He is most interested in increasing the in-space demand for infrastructure and services in space. Chris is Chair of the Space Domain at XPRIZE, co-founded gravityLab, and previously co-founded and as CEO led Planetary Resources, the asteroid mining company, launching satellites, creating new space policy, and changing the public discourse on space mining. He helped design, build and operate the Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity, as well as the Phoenix Mars Lander while at NASA. He has served on NASA review boards for the Insight Mars Lander, the Curiosity rover, and the Psyche mission to a metal asteroid.
