Information about the project
Drone-based delivery of medical products
Zipline is a Silicon Valley-based logistics company partnering with Government of Rwanda that designs, manufactures, and operates drones to deliver lifesaving medical products on demand. The drones fly autonomously by computer, enabling affordable, fast, and reliable access to blood, vaccines, and essential medicines, regardless of terrain or gaps in road infrastructure. Through a partnership with Rwanda, Zipline is operating the world’s first national drone delivery service to deliver blood products to half of the country’s transfusing facilities, with a goal of putting all 12 million Rwandan citizens within 15 to 45 minutes’ delivery of any essential medical product by the end of 2017.
National implementation: Rwanda
