Information about the project
Project title *
Wireless optical signal availability and link range analyses over strong fluctuating meteorological conditions with case study in Senegal
Title acronym
AWOPLSEN
Description *
Free Space Optics (FSO) systems can provide high data rates, up to 10 GB/s. They are also easy to install and low cost compared to wired optical fiber. In that regard, FSO can play a key role in terms of back-up links for the infrastructure of telecommunications operators and even for the National Data Centers (NDC), enterprises and end user access. ,
In that work, we have established the availability of some types FSO systems from various measurements of visibilities in Senegal.. We also evaluated the availability, by taking into consideration the occurrence of deep variations of meteorological conditions, like heavy rain, dusty events, and the scintillations effects on the signals. In each of these cases, the link margin and maximum range were investigated and established.
