Information about the project
Reliability of Free space optical systems (FSO) in Senegal
Senegal, like many Least Developed countries (LDCs) is facing challenges in developing its telecommunication networks and services in terms of accessibility and availability and by the way satisfying the needs for the universal access on the basics ICTs services. In that context, Free Space Optics (FSO) systems can play a key role in terms of backhauling and back-up links for the telecommunication infrastructure of the governmental intranet, in regard to ensure access and services availability. They have similar capacity to optical fiber and are easy to install, licence free and low cost compared to wired technologies. In that work, the FSO link availability and long range feasibility were investigated and established by using visibility data record to simulate existing FSO systems.
National implementation: Senegal
