Information about the project
A Telemedicine-enabled Rural Health Social Franchise
To expand access to quality health care in rural western Kenya World Health Partners launched a telemedicine-enabled social franchise network. WHP equipped existing community healthcare providers with the technology, tools and network support that they need to become change agents for community health improvements. WHP worked with local partner KMET in establising a network of community-based healthcare providers in Siaya and Kisumu counties. The network added telemedicine capability to 13 clinics and 81 community health volunteers (CHVs). In just the first 6 months of the demonstration project, these providers conducted 834 teleconsultations, over 70% of which were with female patients.
Local implementation: Kenya, Phase I (2014): Kisumu and Siaya counties Phase II (2015 and on): Homa Bay and Migori counties
Implementation in progress from 01/01/2014
KMET, a Kenyan NGO
