OPEN CONSULTATION PROCESS
The Final Briefing for the WSIS Forum 2026 will take place on 4 June 2026 from 14:00 to 15:30 CET at ITU Headquarters in Geneva, with virtual participation available. The session will be opened by the ITU Secretary-General, and will provide stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the Forum programme, including the High-Level Track, thematic sessions, special tracks, and exhibition arrangements.
The Open Consultation Process has been instrumental in shaping the agenda and priorities of WSIS Forum 2026. Two consultative meetings held earlier this year brought together stakeholders from governments, civil society, the private sector, and the technical community to contribute ideas, propose sessions, and identify key themes for the Forum. We thank all who participated in making the programme a truly multistakeholder effort. |

WSIS PRIZES 2026
The 15th edition of the WSIS Prizes is the first held under the renewed WSIS mandate following the UNGA review. This year, 18 Winners and 72 Champions will be recognised across 18 categories aligned with the WSIS Action Lines and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The WSIS Prize Ceremony will take place on 9 July during the Forum. Winning initiatives will be featured in the WSIS Stocktaking: Success Stories publication.
The winners will be announced at the Forum — join us in Geneva to celebrate the world's most impactful ICT-for-development projects. |
WSIS PHOTO CONTEST 2026
The WSIS Photo Contest 2026 invited photographers from around the world to capture how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are playing an enabling role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Submissions are now closed, and the selection committee is reviewing entries.
The winners will be announced at the WSIS Forum 2026. Selected photographs will be exhibited during the Forum (6–10 July), reaching an international audience of policymakers, innovators, and development leaders, and the exhibition will continue to be displayed at ITU Headquarters in Geneva thereafter. Winning entries will also be featured across WSIS channels with dedicated poster and campaign materials created and shared with the #WSIS2026 and #WSISPrizes community. |

United Nations Group on Information Society
The United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) continues its work with a strengthened mandate following the adoption of UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/80/173. With UNCTAD holding the Chair for 2025–2026 and ITU, UNDP, UNESCO, and ESCWA serving as Vice-Chairs, UNGIS has translated this mandate into two new mechanisms.
Multistakeholder Consultation Group (MCG)
UNGIS is establishing a new Multistakeholder Consultation Group to provide a structured platform for engagement between UNGIS and all stakeholder communities — governments, the private sector, civil society, the technical community, academia, and international organizations. The MCG will hold regular virtual consultations, engage in person at the annual WSIS Forum, and contribute written inputs on thematic priorities. The first cohort will operate from 2026 to 2028. The open call for expressions of interest is open until 12 June 2026. The MCG will be formally presented at the UNGIS Session during WSIS Forum 2026.

WSIS Action Lines Coordination
Coordination among WSIS Action Lines Facilitators continues actively ahead of the Forum. All 11 Action Lines are currently working on developing roadmaps in line with the UNGA Resolution A/RES/80/173, paragraph 113, which calls for concrete, forward-looking plans to advance the implementation of the WSIS outcomes through 2035.
At WSIS Forum 2026, dedicated Action Line Facilitator Sessions will provide structured space for stakeholders to review progress, address implementation gaps, and present the roadmaps to the wider multistakeholder community. These sessions are an important opportunity for governments, civil society, the private sector, and international organizations to engage directly with the thematic areas most relevant to their work — from connectivity and cybersecurity to e-health, e-education, and cultural diversity.
All stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the Action Line sessions at the Forum and contribute to shaping the path forward for digital cooperation toward 2035. |
WSIS Stocktaking
The WSIS Stocktaking Platform is a publicly accessible system providing information on ICT-related initiatives and projects carried out by governments, international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and other entities.
Since 2005, regular reporting has been a key tool for monitoring the progress of ICT initiatives worldwide with reference to the 11 WSIS Action Lines. As our global repository of ICT for development projects continues to grow, we invite you to submit your innovative projects and initiatives to the database. Sharing your work helps highlight best practices, fosters collaboration, and inspires action across the globe. |
WSIS YOUTH SPECIAL TRACK 2026
The Youth Special Track runs throughout the Forum week, with 6 July as the Youth Day. The track features 21 sessions across 15+ topics spanning AI governance, digital well-being, environmental sustainability, cybersecurity, connectivity, and the road to WSIS 2035. Sessions include a Youth Dialogue, Knowledge Café, workshops, a Model United Nations simulation, an AI Filmmaking workshop, and a Networking Reception.
Participants come from all six ITU regions and include members of the Youth Advisory Board, young professionals, UN agencies, civil society, and government delegations. Youth can engage as speakers, moderators, co-creators, or online amplifiers.
WSIS and UNGIS also hosted two youth-focused side events at the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum ahead of the main Forum week, exploring digital inclusion and innovative digital development action toward WSIS 2035. |
SPECIAL TRACK ON WOMEN AND GIRLS
The Special Track on Women and Girls reflects a core mandate of the renewed UNGA resolution: gender equality must be integrated across all WSIS Action Lines. WSIS Forum 2026 is committed to a 50/50 participation balance across the event.
Earlier this year at CSW70 in New York, WSIS and UNGIS co-organized two high-level side events on the digital empowerment of women and girls, bringing together policymakers, UN agencies, and civil society to advance the gender commitments of the WSIS+20 resolution. UNGIS members are also coordinating the development of a WSIS Action Plan on Women and Girls, working with Action Line Facilitators and the WSIS Women and Girls Trendsetters network.
The WSIS Repository of Women in Technology continues to grow as a global record of women shaping the digital landscape. At WSIS Forum 2026, the Special Track will bring these efforts together in dedicated sessions throughout the week. |
