WSIS Prizes Contest 2019 Nominee

Angels on the Net (Anjos na rede)

Description

The Project Angel on the Network was created through a multi-partnership, involving private and public sectors and civil society in Brazil. This project was designed to combat child pornography and pedophilia online and it proved to be a very successful initiative, allowing the Brazilian Federal Police to obtain sound results in the protection of children and adolescents against online exploitation. This project is a result of a partnership between the Federal Police itself, the Special Secretariat for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic ( SEDH ) and The NGO SaferNet.

Admittedly since mid-2002, Federal Prosecutors of the state of São Paulo requested to the Multi-professional Brazilian Association for the Protection of Childhood and Adolescence (ABRAPIA) "that the new sites containing photographs or images of child pornography should be directed to the Federal Prosecutor" , and around 2006, they started an agreement with the hotlines SaferNet Brazil (www.SaferNet.org.br) and www.censura.com.br, true germ of the proposal which would be matured over the following 2 years, called Project Angels on the Net.
