It is one of the projects of the General Authority for Statistics, through which it seeks to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to support decision makers and policy makers and to enable users to obtain and view statistical data in a way that meets their diverse needs and responds to the standards and requirements of providing open data. The statistical database is considered the official and unified reference for the statistical products issued by the Authority and provides comprehensive statistical information that serves the needs and expectations of all types of users. The statistical database provides all the products of the General Authority for Statistics through an international classification of various statistical topics, and in a manner that enables users to access information in the quickest and easiest ways. The platform also includes multiple functions such as advanced search, exporting data in all globally applicable forms and formats, and sharing data with beneficiaries in technical ways. Advanced, the platform also allows the possibility of designing statistical outputs in a manner that meets the requests of beneficiaries.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) in Saudi Arabia has developed a comprehensive statistical database that can be replicated by other countries through specific practices, tools, and standards. Here's how:1. Standardized Data Collection and Methodology: GASTAT follows international standards like those from the World Bank, ensuring that data collection and reporting processes are replicable globally. Other countries can access these methodologies through GASTAT’s publications and guidelines.2. Open Access and Data Sharing: GASTAT publishes data in open formats (CSV, JSON, Excel) with detailed metadata, allowing other countries to download and replicate analyses. 3. Public Data Repositories: GASTAT’s data can be hosted on public repositories like GitHub or World Bank DataBank, enabling replication. These platforms provide infrastructure for reusing and analyzing data.4. Data Transparency and Documentation: GASTAT ensures transparency by providing metadata, data dictionaries, and detailed documentation. This makes it easier for other countries to understand the collection and analysis processes, promoting consistent replication.5. International Collaboration and Capacity Building: GASTAT shares its methodology and tools through international forums and workshops, facilitating knowledge transfer to other countries. Collaboration can occur via international platforms like the UN Statistical Commission.6. Replicable Technological Infrastructure: GASTAT uses scalable technologies such as big data analytics and visualization tools that can be replicated using platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. These technologies allow other countries to adopt similar infrastructure. In summary, GASTAT’s database is replicable due to its use of international standards, open-access data, transparent methodologies, and scalable technologies. Other countries can follow GASTAT’s model to build robust statistical databases, improve decision-making, and contribute to global data governance initiatives.
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) has developed a sustainable statistical database through various strategies ensuring its long-term functionality and adaptability:1.Adherence to International Standards: GASTAT follows global standards for data collection and reporting, ensuring compatibility with international frameworks, aiding long-term maintenance and cooperation.2.Open Access and Transparency: GASTAT provides open access to its data, with detailed metadata and documentation, fostering trust and enabling independent data use and maintenance by stakeholders.3.Integration of Emerging Technologies: GASTAT uses big data analytics, cloud computing, and data visualization tools, ensuring the database remains up-to-date and capable of handling future data demands.4.Data Quality and Continuous Updates: Regular updates and a focus on data quality ensure the database reflects current trends, making it a reliable resource for decision-making and policy development.5.Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer: Training programs develop local expertise in data management, reducing reliance on external resources and promoting long-term resilience.6.Collaboration with Stakeholders: GASTAT partners with government agencies and international bodies, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with stakeholder needs.7.Scalable Cloud Solutions: Cloud-based infrastructure provides a flexible, cost-effective solution to manage large datasets and expand with growing data needs.8.Public Engagement and Use: Interactive dashboards and data visualization tools encourage widespread use, ensuring the database’s ongoing relevance and supporting data-driven decision-making.9.Focus on Social Data:GASTAT includes data aligned with global sustainability goals, ensuring its relevance in addressing challenges like inequality.Through these strategies, GASTAT’s statistical database remains relevant, adaptable, and sustainable, supporting policy development, research, and public engagement in the long term.
The World Summit on the Information Society(WSIS)highlights the importance of information and communication technologies in advancing global development goals. GASTAT’s statistical database supports these WSIS values by promoting data-driven decision-making and ICT use for societal progress. 1.Access to Information and Knowledge:GASTAT’s open, reliable data promotes transparency and informed decision-making, empowering governments, businesses, researchers, and citizens. 2.Capacity Building: The database fosters skill development in data management and ICT, with training programs that enhance the technical abilities of individuals and organizations. 3.Inclusivity and Bridging the Digital Divide:By identifying disparities in access to services, GASTAT helps design policies to bridge gaps and promote digital inclusion, particularly in underserved communities. 4.Supporting Sustainable Development:GASTAT tracks progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), offering insights into areas like renewable energy, aiding policy improvements. 5.Policy and Decision Support:GASTAT provides accurate, timely data that supports evidence-based policymaking, helping governments address key issues like public health. 6.Ethical Use of Data and Privacy Protection: GASTAT ensures data privacy and ethical standards in data collection, aligning with WSIS values of respect for privacy. 7.Collaboration and Partnerships: GASTAT’s database fosters collaboration across government agencies, international organizations, and the private sector, driving cross-border initiatives. 8.Transparency and Accountability:By offering open and accurate data, GASTAT enhances transparency, enabling citizens to track policy outcomes. 9.Innovation: GASTAT promotes innovation by allowing use of big data, machine learning, and AI to improve decision-making and address global challenges. Through these efforts, GASTAT’s statistical database contributes to building an equitable and sustainable information society, as envisioned by WSIS.
