MetaHRise: Transforming Onboarding and Talent Development through the Metaverse

A groundbreaking onboarding programme driven by Metaverse technology.

Description

Leveraging Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, MetaHRise immerses new hires in a virtual environment through experiential learning to explore MCMC’s roles, functions, and culture. Participants engage with innovative spaces like the MCMC Virtual Lobby and Connect Hub Learning Centre. Gamified activities such as Step-Right Up and Mind Match prioritise collaboration and critical thinking, reinforcing MCMC’s culture of innovation while preparing employees to thrive in a future-ready workforce.
The programme also streamlines onboarding processes, reducing the logistical complexities and costs associated with in-person onboarding. In today’s fast-paced environment, MetaHRise demonstrates the need for modern training methods that actively involve employees.

Sustainability

1. Customisable and Trend-Responsive Content
- MetaHRise’s modular content design allows MCMC to easily update, enhance, or customise modules to reflect emerging trends, new technologies, evolving regulatory frameworks, and shifting organizational priorities.
- This flexibility ensures that the learning experience remains fresh, relevant, and aligned with current workforce needs, supporting continuous learning.
- By incorporating real-time feedback from participants, MCMC can continuously improve content quality, ensuring it resonates with each new generation of employees.

2. Scalable Digital Platform
- As a virtual environment, MetaHRise can easily scale to accommodate growing participant numbers without significantly increasing costs or requiring additional physical infrastructure.
- This scalability makes it suitable for not just onboarding but also ongoing training, leadership development, and nationwide digital literacy initiatives, contributing to long-term value creation.

3. Cost-Efficiency and Resource Optimization
- By eliminating the need for physical venues, printed materials, and travel, MetaHRise significantly reduces operational costs and environmental footprint.
- The initial investment in content creation and platform development is spread across multiple future uses, making the project financially sustainable over time.
- Reusable assets, such as avatars, gamified elements, and learning templates, further enhance cost-efficiency.

4. Environmental Sustainability
By shifting from physical onboarding to virtual experiences, MetaHRise supports MCMC’s sustainability goals by:
- Reducing paper waste through paperless onboarding.
- Minimising travel-related carbon emissions.
- Encouraging the use of energy-efficient devices and green digital practices in content hosting and delivery.

WSIS values promotion

Expanding MetaHRise into Future Learning Building on its success, MCMC is expanding MetaHRise beyond onboarding to include micro-credential learning programmes. These immersive modules replicate real-world scenarios, offering practical training that equips participants with job-ready skills while promoting responsible digital behaviour. Cyberbullying, a pressing issue in Malaysia, particularly impacts underserved communities with limited digital education access. To address this, MetaHRise will include modules on cyberbullying awareness, aiming to help participants recognize, respond to, and prevent online harassment. In 2024 alone, MCMC recorded 3,199 cyberbullying-related complaints. By utilising NADI centres as hubs, MCMC ensures rural and underserved communities’ access high-quality education, benefiting 40% of Malaysia’s population who lack regular internet access. This effort bridges the digital divide, empowering individuals with tools to combat cyberbullying while fostering a safer online environment.
