The main objective of this guide is to present best practices, general guidance, and a framework that can be used by the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) federal government entities to evaluate systems and technologies that incorporate and utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assess individuals for employment-related decisions. AI is a field of study with the general purpose of developing digital programs and machines that can display some properties that are similar to human-level intelligence or judgment. Machine learning (ML), a subfield of AI, involves the use of mathematical algorithms that are deployed and adapted to maximize the prediction of patterns of relationships within datasets. ML enables computer algorithms to learn from datasets without being specifically programmed.

Here's how: Promoting Ethical Use of Technology: The project ensures that AI applications in talent assessment are used responsibly and transparently. This aligns with WSIS values of trust, security, and ethical dimensions of the information society. Encouraging Inclusivity and Fairness: By providing guidelines to mitigate bias in AI-driven assessments, the project contributes to ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals, irrespective of gender, race, or socio-economic status. This supports WSIS goals of inclusivity and equity in digital innovation. Capacity Building: The project empowers organizations and stakeholders by providing clear frameworks for the ethical evaluation of AI in talent assessments. This contributes to building human and institutional capacity as emphasized in WSIS Action Lines. Facilitating Knowledge Sharing: By documenting best practices and ethical standards, the project promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration among different sectors, which aligns with WSIS values of cooperation and partnership. Enhancing Trust in AI: The guidelines improve transparency and accountability in AI applications, building trust among users and stakeholders. This contributes to a safe and secure information society, a core WSIS objective. Promoting Digital Transformation: By addressing ethical considerations, the project ensures that AI adoption in talent assessment supports sustainable development and contributes positively to the digital transformation of organizations and communities.
