Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia

Description

The objectives of the TCCM is to provide an alternative forum to civil courts for consumers to claim redress in respect of any goods and services purchased in a convenience, fast manner and at a minimal cost; to hear and determine claims in an independent and just manner; and to develop the law on consumer protection.

The Tribunal has jurisdiction to hear claim for redress for the purchase of goods or services permitted under the jurisdiction of the Tribunal as provided under Act 599; a claim where the total amount does not exceed RM50,000.00; and a claim which accrues within three years of the claim.

For the period from 2016 to February 2022, TCCM has successfully handled a total of 30643 consumer claim filings involving a claim value of RM 169,640,893.95 and the value of awards in the form of money obtained by consumers is as much as RM43,440,606.04 as well as other awards that are not in the form of money.

A total of 27860 (90.9%) of the 30643 cases filed have been successfully resolved by the TCCM for the period 2016 to February 2022

Before the establishment of TCCM, all disputes between consumers and traders, suppliers or manufacturers of goods or service providers had to be brought to civil court which involved complicated, high cost and time-consuming procedures. But, with TCCM, users can obtain justice through an efficient system without having to be physically present. In line with TCCM's objective to facilitate users to make compensation claims easily and quickly.
