WSIS Prizes Contest 2022 Nominee

The Digital Literacy Netizen Fair

Description

In 2021, The MCI initiated a set of workshops as well as online and offline seminars discussing catchy digital literacy issues under the National Digital Literacy Program across 34 provinces and 514 cities/regions. This sequence of digital literacy events is headlined by senior government officials, experts in digital technology, and renowned content creators and influencers. By the end of the year, the MCI conducted the Digital Literacy Netizen Fair as a finale of the digital literacy series of events, and an annual event which had been carried out since 2017 and collaborated with GNLD Siberkreasi.
All of the events in this program are free for the general public with the support from a diverse line of partners, including government agencies, industries, experts, influencers and many more. The event agenda consists of conferences, workshops, and exhibitions on relevant issues, topped with music performances from a-list artists at the conclusion of the event. Since the initiation of this project in early 2021, we have achieved:
- 14.641.097 online and offline participants
- 12.330.670 unique participants
- 17.414 events
As the MCI aims to enhance and strengthen creativity, as well as productivity among the netizens in using digital space, this digital literacy initiative promotes the importance of positive utilization of the internet through content creation, optimized use of digital platforms, and many more. In this matter, we pursue our objectives through 4 pillars of digital literacy that are manifested in our groundbreaking programs, which are:
- Digital Skills
- Digital Safety
- Digital Ethics
- Digital Culture
Additionally, after thousands of digital literacy events that we carried out in 2021, according to the research conducted by Katadata Insight Center and The MCI, it is found that the digital literacy index has improved to 3,49 out of 5,00. This improvement demonstrates the success of our projects the past year.

Replicability

Due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, our programs are carried out in a hybrid scheme. Furthermore, our project is clustered into 2: public dissemination events (through workshop, webinars, etc); and public education contents. All of our projects are replicable as we provide open and comprehensive references and substances that can be accessed from literasidigital.id. The MCI also commits to support entities who wish to convey various digital literacy activities or events throughout the nation.

Public dissemination events:
In early 2021, the MCI which closely collaborates with GNLD Siberkreasi and its 119 partners, regional governments, and local communities presented the massive digital literacy training under the tagline of #IndonesiaMakinCakapDigital. As the project goes on, it has covered more than 17.000 events with more than 20.000 participants in every event. These series of national digital literacy training #IndonesiaMakinCakapDigital is concluded with a set of annual hybrid fair renowned as Digital Literacy Netizen Fair. As an ultimate finale, this event is held simultaneously in 18 capital cities across the nation, with the main event held in Bali. All of these events based their substances and framework on all 4 digital literacy pillars and modules which are open for the public and can be accessed through literasidigital.id.

Public education contents:
In line with the workshop and training projects, we also convey wide ranging digital literacy materials, such as relevant infographics, guidance, articles, news, through our social media. Beside that, the MCI and GNLD Siberkreasi also established an application namely Siberkreasi in AppStore and PlayStore which provides books, videos, articles for independent learning. This application also aligned with the digital literacy repository that we launched since 2017, namely literasidigital.id. Additionally, all materials and substantial articles, books, etc, marked with Creative Commons (CC) license.

Sustainability

Indonesia is blessed with more than 17.000 islands with hundreds of different cultures and languages. To enable and empower digital talents across the archipelago, a strategic plan of action which involves local communities, talents, as well as governmental institutions is essential. Hence, we built mutual cooperation and partnership among stakeholders, which at first, aims to raise the awareness regarding digital literacy.
Further, once our massive attempts on spreading awareness in the digital literacy issue are done, then, we move to the next step, in which we equip the citizens with the optimum capability to utilize the digital technology. Beside equipping and educating our digital talents through various workshops and seminars, we also aim to empower them, through touching communities and individuals, and encourage them to be productive and creative, and taking as much as positive benefits from the digital media.
Our main implementation framework is merely about education and empowerment, yet also to lead our netizens to learn and exercise independently through our Siberkreasi Application. In this application, we provide various digital literacy materials ranging from articles, books, guidance, videos, and many more. Through this application, the user will need to finish each module in each level, to move to another. In the end of the module itself, there will be a quiz which will enable us to check their understanding in digital literacy substances that they had just learned.

Furthermore, the sustainability of the project is also guaranteed by the abundance of teaching and learning materials available for free on http://literasidigital.id and on the application.

WSIS values promotion

We aim not only to educate, yet also to empower, and provide high quality information. We believe that these goals are aligned with WSIS values category 4: Capacity Building, and SDGs Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Moreover, we also aim to substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have digital skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship. We keenly promote digital safety and online protection, digital culture and ethics, as well as and digital talent empowerment; in which are incorporated in our Digital Literacy Roadmap of 2021-2024.
