Starlink

Description

Starlink is a constellation of low Earth orbiting satellites designed to deliver high speed, low latency broadband internet to locations where access has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable. While still in beta operations, Starlink has already demonstrated peak download speeds of 150-200 Mbps and latency ranging between 20-45ms for most locations. This accomplishment has enabled previously unconnected communities to engage in activities that were previously inaccessible including video conferencing, online gaming and streaming activities.

SpaceX is authorized to launch almost 12,000 satellites as part of a network of LEO satellites to accomplish this goal. As of January 2021, SpaceX has deployed over 1000 Starlink satellites - the largest satellite constellation currently in space.

Starlink is now delivering initial beta broadband service to customers in the United States, and internationally, and will continue expansion to near global coverage of the populated world in 2021. With ongoing satellite launches, SpaceX expects to be able to offer broadband services around the world.

Sustainability

Maintaining a clean space environment is a foundational priority for SpaceX. Starlink is on the leading edge of techniques that limit the creation of any debris on orbit and enhance space safety, meeting or exceeding all regulatory and industry standards.

WSIS values promotion

Starlink directly contributes to the promotion of WSIS values on a global scale by providing fast and reliable internet connectivity to underserved and unserved areas around the world. With Starlink Internet service, these communities will have access to a wealth of information, knowledge and increased communication capabilities. With this access, achieving such values as universal primary education, the reduction of inequality between countries and communities, and development of global partnerships for more peaceful and inclusive societies will become much more attainable.
