TIP SESSIONS

Description

A two-pronged solution approach to a community engagement platform: TIP Sessions and Baeru. Both platforms join together to create a hybrid model that focuses on climate action, civic awareness, and sustainable consumption and livelihoods. TIP Sessions is a community intervention program that addresses climate action and sustainability. Baeru takes off from where TIP Sessions builds connections, through the production of handmade lifestyle products with locally sourced ingredients and recycling material segregated from TIP Sessions’ waste management centers. Through Baeru and TIP Sessions, we’re creating a circular economy and creating employment for rural women. They are individuals who have access to traditional methods of material reuse and consume traditional forms of culture for entertainment: Our market for sustainable products such as: • Honey • Handmade organic soaps • Cloth bags • Areca plates is consumers who are unable to afford expensive organic products and recycled lifestyle products, and also enthusiasts of a sustainable lifestyle.

Replicability

Yes, this work is being replicated in every constituency in Coastal Karnataka and we are in the processing of scaling it to Dakshina Kannada. Our team is working through COVID-19 with PPE kits and regular medical check-ups for safety, however, the training and livelihood of our women remain constant even if it has slowed down. We have not stopped paying salaries either.

WSIS values promotion

"People in Udupi aspire to products that are brought in from the metros and are otherwise not eco-friendly, those that are heavily marketed and pretty packaging. The locals also typically don’t have viable alternatives to single-use plastic use in many situations - fish markets and grocery stores to name two. In a bid towards progress, they often sideline traditional methods of sustainable consumption and traditional methods of material reuse in homes. Chiefly, sustainability is seen as unaffordable. Our target population is the local communities in Udupi; members of the Gram Panchayats, shopkeepers, and local residents and consumers globally, who want to transition to sustainability. The common link amongst them is a need to transition for sustainable and affordable consumption. The goals for TIP Sessions are to enable more women to be financially independent, to create a circular economy and a sustainable lifestyle that is affordable, and to leverage and boost local arts and learning, couples with an appreciation of what we have in coastal belts. The USP is in the HOW- To communicate better, in vernacular. To empower local communities. To work with hyper-local systems. To introduce tech to existing systems. To address core beliefs "
