A web-based platform open to everyone (technologists, researchers, academia, vendors, suppliers, customers, students, individual thought leaders, and more) OpEN enables people, especially women, and businesses to connect in communities and on specific challenges at the crossroads of business and technology. They can form communities focused on specific value clusters, openly share information to supercharge ideation while providing paths to shift a connected cluster of individual contributors into more private, secure spaces. A particular cluster may eventually shift into more formal relationships to drive proof of concept initiatives, joint partnerships, start-ups, and more. This is the first platform to openly connect all different communities of thought leadership driving to solve complex techno-economic challenges and create new business value. And it is free. OpEN is the brainchild of Nokia who created and hosts the platform, but it is not monetized in any way (fees, ads, etc.). While many of the staff at Nokia have embraced the platform to innovate with the broader community, the OpEN community is much broader than Nokia.

Scalability It’s not only the hub of collaboration and the cross road of many technologies, but also covers topics to transform our world into a better place. The majority of Nokia challenges are looking solutions that can be replicable in many countries as the vocation is to deploy on the internationally standardized digital networks. The EU EIT Digital Challenge is seeking scaleups leveraging digital technologies for smart application. OpEN is also looking for 5G use cases that we can apply in Europe and replicate in Asia to meet our customers’ requirements. We pay a strong attention on the involvement on women in 5G new solutions creation. Frugal innovation community is around inclusive and circular economy. It aims at bringing world class organizations and bright people to create more inclusive societies and develop the circular economy. The local ecosystem creation and animation has been replicated in India and China. Our Bangalore University Collaboration is featured in the "Success Story" by MCA India for showcasing and sharing best practices across locations. Digital divide and Education OpEN values education very highly. The goal of the Open Ecosystem YOUTH IN STEM community, especially for girls, is to facilitate discussions and sharing around this theme, to encourage women to get involved in sustainable development educational projects for future generations. With Start North challenge the challenge is to think and create innovative MVP or Demo on what is the future of education. With Aalto University we are looking for daring VR applications for educations benefitting to women and men. The successful proposals will be invited for rapid testing and validation of the ideas the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre.
