SocialGrid: ENHANCING ENERGY EFFICIENCY USING SOCIAL NETWORKING

Description

In this project, we present SocialGrid as an integration of social networks and the smart grid to optimize electric power consumption using social networking and recommender systems benefits. By equipping consumers with a smart energy meter, the proposed platform has made consumers real-time aware of their energy consumption and, in addition to social networking features such as sharing ideas and influencer peoples, have made households more familiar with energy-saving practices and are encouraged to use them. Using game theory and recommender systems, it tries to help users to perform more activities. The proposed scheme is expected to bring about changes in the electricity consumption patterns of users and make them more efficient in their daily behaviors. The system has been implemented in a small community in MASHHAD city.

WSIS values promotion

The SocialGrid project provides equitable and affordable access to power consumption information and digital technology. This innovative project is related to enhancing the quality of the lives of people. In the SocialGrid system, people can make greater use of ICT technologies to access their real-time power consumption information. Efforts to reduce greenhouse gases emitted during electricity generation, the oil crisis, and economic concerns, have led to a trend towards renewable energy generation and the creation of energy efficiency. However, energy supply does generally not follow the customer's demand, and this is where energy management systems become essential. Optimal energy consumption has been recognized as the most cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Implementing an Energy Management System (EMS) is useful for identifying energy-saving opportunities. An EMS involves a systematic process to improve energy efficiency and maximize energy savings. The SocialGrid system provides a framework for using energy management and identifies opportunities to use energy-saving technologies, especially those that do not necessarily require investment. Energy management is an essential aspect of any country. Most countries are trying to develop and implement different projects in this field.
