“Digital region”

Description

“Digital region” is an ecosystem of 20+ digital solutions, divided into three main product lines: “security”, “manageable city” and “comfortable urban environment”. Currently, we have implemented some 750+ digital products in 70+ regions of Russia.

Safety solutions consist of intellectual video surveillance and establishment of emergency response centers, which predict incidents, process exhaustive information and respond to emergencies rapidly.

Manageability solutions improve efficiency of urban services: from intelligent transport system and energy efficiency to ecology and waste management.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, safe management of medical wastes is gaining special relevance. The platform includes information system that allows controlling all stages of medical waste processing and disposal.

Comfortable urban environment is achieved among others through the implementation of multifunctional complex solutions such as smart bus stops, smart outdoor furniture, smart lighting, automatic public transport fare collection, etc.
Results:
• Emergency response time is reduced by 35%;
• Predictability of emergencies is increased up to 90%;
• Energy consumption is decreased by 3.5 billion kWh in 12 regions of Russia;
• More than 250 thousand violations and emergencies were predicted and prevented.

Impact:
• Reduced number of incidents, casualties, etc.;
• Improved energy consumption efficiency;
• Optimization of transport system and traffic capacity increase;
• Digitalisation of public urban services.

Replicability

All products operate according to international data exchange and secure storage standards. All equipment has international certification, operates on a single tech stack and can be quickly launched anywhere in the world.
We have been already implementing our project beyond Russia: since 2017, we have deployed the intellectual video surveillance platform in 16 cities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the moment, the platform integrates live video streams from more than 40 thousand CCTV cameras, which helps local government to detect and suppress crimes and offences on a daily basis.

Sustainability

The project “Digital region” fully meets the idea of sustainable development.
The purpose of the “Digital region” is to make regions and cities smart in order to improve the quality of life. Smart equipment is being created to process data received from urban infrastructure for further analysis and intelligent management of transportation systems, utilities, energy consumption, waste, (including biomedical waste), crime detection, ecology, etc.
Intelligent transportation system (automatic traffic management system, parking space management, traffic monitoring system, automatic public transport fare collection system) and intellectual video surveillance allow for improving road safety and provide access to safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems. “Safe city” hardware & software suite helps to reduce the number of deaths. Waste management system reduces the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities. Safe management of medical wastes helps to prevent adverse health effects in urban environment. These and some other digital solutions improve the quality of life and contribute to the sustainable development of Russian regions.
The project “Digital region” demonstrates how modern information and communication technologies can help to enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization, improve urban safety, prevent disruptive events such as natural disasters and pandemics, fight the spread of COVID-19 and save the planet by ensuring sustainable consumption patterns and forming a responsible attitude to nature.

WSIS values promotion

The regions of Russia are very different in terms of economic development, urban and digital infrastructure and quality of life. Paramount goal of the project is to eliminate the digital inequality of the regions both in terms of ICT infrastructure development and in terms of economic and social development. It is important to increase the government efficiency and ensure the availability of digital services that make the citizens’ life safer, more convenient and comfortable. “Digital region” creates infrastructure that allows general public to get access to free Internet in public places. Thus, the project contributes to increasing the ICT availability. The implementation of the project creates a potential for development of applied solutions in the field of smart cities by local producers of equipment and hardware. Thus, we foster partnerships among all stakeholders and contribute to the development of ICTs. Finally, “Digital region” creates favorable digital environment that contributes to narrowing existing and emerging socio-economic inequalities between regions and promotes affordable access to ICT to foster the information society in the Russian Federation.
