Anti Hoax Public Campaign


Description

Objectives:
- To educate public about digital literacy
- To enhance the public awareness about hoax and disinformation

Result achieved:
- The public awareness about hoax keep encreasing.
- More institutions making partnership with Mafindo since its established.
- Hoax Buster Tools, app created by Mafindo to help public to report a hoax, to filter out unverified news source and to debunk hoax from mobile, has been downloading 10k+ since its launched in 2018.
- Mafindo forum in FB Group, Forum Anti Fitnah Hasut dan Hoax now has 75k+

Impact generated:
- Most of the people that attend or join in Mafindo event such as seminary, workshop or public campaign enhance their awareness about hoax and digital literacy
- Pre and post test/quiz in Mafindo events indicates improvement about digital litercay for the most of participants

Consistently making public education event at any level from home neighborhood, school, university to national institutions.


Sustainability

Mafindo now has 19 regional chapter througout Indonesia. The core strength of our organization is on the their 500 active volunteers which creates wide network and partnership. This really help Mafindo to carry out any events since the financial burden can be suppressed in a minimum amount.

Apart from external funding, Mafindo has also Fundraising Committee to help the organization improve its financial resources.


WSIS values promotion

Mafindo's anti hoax public campaign's goals is to educate and enhance public digital literacy and awareness about hoax and disinformation. This definitely in line with WSIS values of Ethical Dimensions of The Information Society. Hoax and disinformation nowadays has been proven as mass destruction "weapon" for the public. Hoax often used to trigger hate speech, which is very divisive factor, moreover in the era of post truth. It will be difficult to create peace, freedom and tolerance environment (which is one of WSIS values) once the public has been toxicized by hoax and disinformation. On the contrary, low level of public awareness about hoax and digital litercay has been proved to racism and intoleration acts which result of hatred amongst the people. By combatting hoax and enhancing public digital literacy, automatically will improve the public awareness and digital literacy. By making public immunes to any negative contents, the destruction impact can be supressed as minimum as possible to create more tolerant and peaceful society.
