CONECTADAS is a network of female leaders in telecommunications, broadcasting and ICT, which is born out of their common concern noticing the scarce inclusion and participation of women in management positions and decision-making, not only in the private sector, but also in academia, public authorities, the judiciary and civil society organizations related to electronic communications. CONECTADAS’ main objective is to help build the necessary conditions to allow for an increasing number of women to reach the C-Suite level in all the organizations that make up the digital ecosystem, so that they directly intervene in the decisions that are made in the sector. By making decision-making diverse and inclusive across the organizations that make up this sector, the participation of women can bring a positive change in a more direct and rapid way. To attain this, we work to raise awareness of the benefits of building more inclusive organizations and give guidance on the most effective strategies to achieve it, where women's talent crystallizes in companies, authorities, universities, research centers and civil associations that are more productive, competitive, successful and socially responsible. CONECTADAS' target audience is composed of the organizations that make up the digital ecosystem -especially female leaders and professionals-, in a multi-stakeholder approach (private and public companies, authorities, academia, NGOs), but it is also linked to feminist groups, legislators and international organizations. Its major activities are: visibility actions for women (publications, congresses and forums, lectures); mentoring; data gathering and analysis; advising organizations for gender inclusion; strategic alliances.

A few months after Conectadas started, a similar initative was launched in Argentina: Chicas TIC. We are currently planning to extend Conectadas to other countries in Latin America
CONECTADAS focuses on this industry, among other reasons, due to the great influence it has on economic and social development, as well as on the possibility of generating more inclusive societies. On one hand, telecommunications and ICT are a powerful tool for inclusion with the possibility of reducing economic and social divides, by directly bringing economic, educational and social opportunities to every person, through the internet. One of the most powerful means to include women in economic development, is to close de gender digital divide On the other hand, the messages that the media and the digital platforms transmit about the roles assigned to men and women, largely shape the idiosyncrasies of people of all ages. To the extent that the media disseminate more inclusive content that avoids gender stereotypes, we can foster positive changes in the way men see women and other men, and how women perceive themselves.
