Aprende.org

Description

Aprende.org is not just an online educational platform, it is a life changing tool. We have partnered with Carlos Slim Foundation in order to eliminate access barriers in education and training, which are tools that promote community development. Also, we are committed to using technology and our resources to reduce the digital divide and thus help transform the quality of life of the people.

Aprende is a digital platform where public in general can gain access to educational, cultural, health, and job-training content free-of-charge through the Aprende app and the website www.aprende.org. Consequently, anyone connected can have access to the same content regardless of their location and educational or socio-economic background.

Aprende includes programs developed by the Carlos Slim Foundation and has established partnerships with Coursera, Udacity, and EDX; it also provides higher education courses developed by recognized universities like MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, and the Sorbonne. Of the 5,000 available courses, 182 offer the option of receiving an official certification; upon finishing a given course, users gain access to job opportunities listed in the platform itself.

All of which, contributes with the first, fourth, fifth and tenth Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations to guarantee an inclusive, equitable and quality education, and promoting learning opportunities for all.

Replicability

América Móvil has presence in 25 countries around the world, it is through our subsidiaries that Aprende.org has been able to expand to different countries. The next step is to carry out campaigns to publicize the program and its benefits to make it known among the people, as well as to engage in constant dialogue with the authorities in order to generate synergies, as well as obtain official certifications for Aprende content.

Sustainability

Aligned with SDG goals, and as an example of América Móvil ambitious goal to substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant technical and vocational skills for employment and entrepreneurship by 2030, in 2016 it launched a pilot project that not only enhanced education by promoting Aprende.org in Mexico, it also created social and environmental awareness.
The initiative started with a campaign to collect and recycle out of use smartphones in exchange of data packages at Telcel’s Service Centers in México, minimizing our value chain e-waste footprint. Afterwards all the cellphones collected where refurbished and packaged for future donation at different states with the most vulnerable communities of Mexico.

WSIS values promotion

Aprende.org is a digital platform that promotes quality education, gender equality, social development, as well as the reduction of the digital divide. This program is aligned with 4 of the 17 United Nations SDGs, with the firm intention of contributing to an improvement in the quality of people's lives.
