Accessible Dictionary for the students with print disability


Description

Cheerful education is possible for a child through different education providing system. Though education framework isn't well disposed in Bangladesh. According to the WHO findings, 15% people are persons with disability and approximately four million people are visually impaired in Bangladesh.With the help of a2i fund, “YPSA” has already made digital education materials from class one to class five. This project of creating visually impaired education materials from sixth grade to 10th class in a series of continuation.
Visually handicapped people now start studying at the university, but they do not have adequate education material. The wider group of print-disabled students is concentrated within the poorest sections of society often in rural areas. Helping students with visual and print disability in getting proper education through Accessible dictionary.
100000 students only in Dhaka has started learning through this. It has become popular in Chittagong hill-track areas, shirajgonj, shunamganj and other off-grid areas of Bangladesh.

Replicability

This a web and mobile based software could be used anywhere. In Bangladesh context, public and private sector can use this software for their interventions for inclusion and accessibility. Other countries with limited ICT capabilities can get support from Bangladesh and have the project replicated.


Sustainability

To handle the potentially large amount of users and to maintain seamless linkage with the users through the initiative, the platform is hosted in the national data center maintained by the government.
The training workshops made this easy to use so that teachers and students can enjoy the ultimate advantages of learning through this and be able to handle all the features.
It can be used by anyone with/out visual disabilities, so the demand will be growing day by day.


WSIS values promotion

The common desire and commitment reflected in WSIS Declaration of principles is to to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society, where everyone can create, access, utilize and share information and knowledge, enabling individuals, communities and peoples to achieve their full potential in promoting their sustainable development and improving their quality of life, premised on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and respecting fully and upholding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Accessible Dictionary for print disabled students is relevant to the WSIS Action Line for C4 (Capacity Building) whereby ICTs can contribute to achieving universal education worldwide, through delivery of education and training of teachers, and offering improved conditions for lifelong learning, also the WSIS Action Line for C7 (ICT Applications: e-learning) whereby ICT applications can support sustainable development, in the field of education and training within the framework of national e-strategies. This project focuses on developing distance learning, training and other forms of education and training as part of capacity building programmes. Moreover, it refers to the unique challenges faced by Bangladesh, an LDC, and how these have been overcome during the project.
