iRespond, an international non-profit based in Seattle, gives identity to the world’s invisibles. In developed countries identity is taken for granted. But in developing parts of the world, millions of at-risk people exist without an identity, making them very vulnerable.*People without identity are susceptible to human trafficking. No record of someone makes it easier for them to disappear and impossible to trace.*People without identity are vulnerable to dishonest employers. Someone who doesn't officially exist has less rights.*People without identity are easy prey for corrupt officials. It's unconscionable but the people who have the least are viewed by some as a source of income. We see a way out of these problems and it's working. The human iris is fully formed before birth and never changes during a lifetime. Using this biometric, an iris scanner and iRespond's software, an identity can be established and securely stored within the intended ecosystem. As participants return to the aid organization, medical provider, or government installation, their eyes are their identification. It provides a perfect match to all their records without the need for translators, risk of input error, or ID cards that can be lost, stolen, or transferred.
