UAV Emergency Telecommunications High-altitude Base Station System

Description

China Mobile UAV Emergency Telecommunications High-altitude Base Station System is an innovative emergency communication system that combines communication equipment and drones to quickly recover communications in the event of a large-scale communication disruption caused by sudden natural disasters. The system can quickly and effectively establish a communication network for a specific area, temporarily replace the communication interruption caused by the damage of the communication facilities, and provide uninterrupted emergency support services for more than 24 hours, it can be widely used in disaster relief, emergency protection, field operations, public security and counter-terrorism, etc, which has strong social value and broad market prospects.
So far, the system has been deployed in 14 provinces throughout the country, and the system has been put into use in Hunan floods and Sichuan earthquake relief, providing fast and reliable communication guarantee for disaster relief operations, reducing the loss of life and property caused by poor information.
In 2018, CMCC and partners will further optimize the system design, greatly improve the applicability and reliability of the system, and to deploy the system nationwide in 2019. At the same time, CMCC and partners also promote the project research in relevant industries, with the goal of optimizing the design of the project, exploring new application scenarios, and driving the development of the industry.

Replicability

The system is currently commercially available and was first purchased and deployed in 14 provincial companies in July 2018 which proves to be time-effective and cost-effective.
In addition to natural disaster scenarios, the system can be widely applied to a wide range of areas such as emergency support, field operations, public security, anti-terrorism, and national defense military. It has good social value and broad market prospects.
The innovative application formed by combining the drone and the communication equipment greatly enhances the coverage capability of the original emergency communication equipment, and is less affected by the topography and geomorphology. It can be used not only for disaster relief and rescue scenarios, but also for field operations, public security and counter-terrorism. It also provides an innovative scheme for emergency communication.

Sustainability

The project also needs to have strong coverage and long-term continuous communication maintenance (such as more than 24 hours) to provide a wide range of stable communication support for disaster relief. To this end, through the in-depth study of the base station link, we have formed a breakthrough solution in coverage and duration, figuring out a program adopting multi-rotor drone platform to replace the original emergency vehicle pole, covering ability is improved form hundred of meters of the traditional emergency vehicle to above 10 kilometers.

WSIS values promotion

The application of the drone base station solution, can quickly restore communication, and the maximum coverage capability can reach more than 10 times of the coverage distance of the traditional emergency vehicle, and has better adaptability of the terrain influence, ensures communication security before the recovery of artificial network coverage (usually more than 24 1hours), providing fast and reliable communication guarantee for disaster relief operations, reducing loss of life and property caused by poor communication.
