OSTEOLINK is the first online andin-person social network in Europe andAustralia designed for people with osteoporosis,their friends, families andhealthcare professionals. OSTEOLINKoperates globally but is implementedlocally, working with a network of IOFmember Societies, who ensure the localsocial and support needs of patients,their families and their related healthcareprofessionals are taken into account.The technology used for OSTEOLINKis not novel, but its application andapproach are unique, as the highlyadaptable and flexible master socialnetworking site is adapted at a countrylevel, translated into a local language,implemented by a local society concernedwith patients with osteoporosisand supported by a global and localscientific committee. OSTEOLINK iseasily replicated at a country level andhas potential for economic exploitationgiven the captive audience with specificneeds.OSTEOLINK is now live in Sweden,Austria, Switzerland and Australia. It isscheduled to go live in Germany andGreece. Negotiations with Portugal,France and Spain have started, andmany more countries have expressedan interest in the programme.
