The smart postman is a new model for the provision of postal services, operating in 12 rural areas of Lithuania and a part of cities. The postmen are using tablets with a special task manager for the postmen called MLIS, developed in cooperation with UAB Informacinių technologijų organizacija (iTo). The app helps to automate various tasks and to make no paper documents necessary. This mobile system allows postmen to work more conveniently and to provide all mail services to residents at home. By introducing modern technologies, we increase the availability of postal services and offer new opportunities for convenient use and improved working conditions of postmen. The work of the postmen becomes computerized and paper documents are no longer necessary. The application of modern technology allows for professional development, encourages learning, regardless the age of an employee. It enhances our employees’ self-esteem and loyalty to the company, helping to attract younger workers.

The App-based product can be replicated in country and help national post offices to reduce paper documents and digitize the postal work, as well as bring communities and their postmen closer together.This app is an internal product that is only available to postmen and is automatically installed on the tablets provided for their work.
The app based solution improve working conditions and reduce paper documents postmen used to carry. The system enables people to bring post office to their homes to send or receive parcels, pay taxes or order subscriptions. The smart postmen enhance the quality of services, provided by Lithuania Post and can benefit the most vulnerable parts of society, especially elderly people in regions, for whom the travel to the nearest post office is a challenge in itself.
The smart postmen project promote several aspects of WSIS values and goals: First of all, the digital solution for postmen work encourages learning and professional development, regardless the age of an employee. The postal system, connected to the tablets of the employees enables the post to monitor and analyse the work in order to provide better postal solutions in the future. The service is people-centered and service-oriented. A postman with means of mobile communication is more accessible, and his connection with the community becomes deeper. People can access a wider variety of services directly from postmen that comes to their door.
