With the abundant of natural latex resources, Malaysia become one of the world largest latex glove manufacturers. In the context of latex gloves, a prevailing issue in question is the possibility of inducing latex allergy. This allergy is known as Immediate-type Hypersensitivity (Type I) which is cause by excessive protein concentration found on the latex glove. So, to ensure quality of glove which leads to latex sensitization, skin allergy reactions and associated risk factors among healthcare workers, conventional method such as modified Lowry method was used to estimate the level of protein concentration for quality control. However, conventional method involved many chemical processes, and were tedious, costly, and lengthy. In order to reduce the set-up cost and time for estimating protein concentration, we have developed an automated and computerized protein concentration determination system to enhance efficiency of sampling through the unmanned stamping and chemical binding machine follow by image acquisition, image processing, colorimetric measurement, and data analysis. Overall, this innovation has reduced time taken to 30 minutes as compared to conventional method which needs 6 hours to complete the process of protein concentration determination.

The process of protein concentration determination able to produce the same results for same type of latex glove model if repeated exactly.
Due to the fact that it is a common practice for healthcare workers wearing the glove from time to time, the possibility of inducing latex allergy is high. So, by using our innovation, we able to lessen the latex allergy spread among the healthcare workers by determine the protein concentration on the latex glove.
Our project able to give benefit to the rubber industry sector and healthcare sector. That why, if we get recognition by WSIS Prizes contest, those sectors will know about the WSIS and provide attention to the WSIS contest in future.
