Mawid: Saudi’s National Centralized Appointment System

Description

Mawid is a user-friendly application that allows patients to make appointments. It is also a platform for clinics and hospitals to manage schedules and referrals. It provides the following features:
- Improved patient engagement through multi-access channels (mobile, web, call center) and notifications capabilities (SMS and Email) and real-time updates.

- Allows Patients to search for PHCs and services offered by them through an integrated Google Map

- Centralized integrated scheduling management system allowing the patient to see all their scheduled appointments across all MOH facilities

- Improved end-to-end scheduling experience for Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) and Hospital services, eliminating patients need to visit hospital multiple times to manage their appointments.

- Ability to subscribe to an appointment wait list which notifies patients in Mawide of earlier appointment becomes available

- Reduction in no show leading to better clinical services utilization

- Potentially reduce ER visits for non-critical Mawides by directing patients to alternative service options

Mawid is currently live and is already bringing better access and quality to the healthcare system.

Sustainability

Mawid builds a foundation for a scalable model that can be adopted beyond the network of the Saudi Ministry of Health care centers to a broader network of private healthcare institutions. It can also serve as a foundation platform for other e-health initiatives.

WSIS values promotion

Mawid enables patients to engage and directly manage their appointments. Prior to Mawid, patients would have to visit the PHCs on walk-in basis, and may had to wait longer times to get their turn. Further, some medical specialties may not be available on the day a patient visits the PHC, which results in unpleasant experiences, and wastage of patient’s time, hassle to commute to the PHCs, etc. Mawid applications provide an intuitive interface that uses the e-government’s unified login credentials. This method follows the e-government initiative for the promotion of electronic services and the unification of validation of individuals across numerous government institutions and services.
