The objective of the project was to createa system, which provides its userssense of presence of their family, friends,and health care personnel, i.e. so calledsafety net, and assures that the elderlypeople are never left alone. The systemencourages people to stay in contactwith other people by providing, as thesimplest form, availability informationof possible and known communicationpartners and in this way the systempromotes to maintain its users’ socialconnections with their safety net people.Through the AMCOSOP system, elderly(primary users) can sense froma distance the availability of their relativesand friends (secondary users),express their communication willingnessto them and exchange contextual andstatus information with them. On topof that, secondary users can communicateshort messages to their primaryusers. Moreover, tertiary users can providemessaging and information typeservices to the primary users, such asconsultancy and care services.
