By installing the Cattle-networking collars and ear tags (terminals of Internet of Things) on yaks, we can provide the multi-functional yak management services for the Bureau of Animal Husbandry, nomads, insurance companies, etc through the platforms such as integrated livestock management system, yak insurance management system, and nomad APPs. Besides, by opening the API to connect to the local animal husbandry and food safety supervision departments, we can provide the information traceability services for multiple stages of the yak’s lifetime, including "birth, growth, slaughter, and sales", in order to enhance the product value and form the unique brand "Hemutong". This project has been successfully piloted and is currently carrying out a large-scale promotion in the yak distribution areas of Sichuan province, with the goal to provide information services for tens of thousands of domestic (or even overseas) yaks. This project is of great significance to the promotion of poverty alleviation in Tibetan areas, the prevention of overgrazing in grasslands, and the improvement of food safety, which also has the good prospects of sustainable development.

This project achieves the one-stop solution of “Standardized Breeding”“Sales” and “Traceability” for yaks. This project adheres to the application and guidance of innovations, puts the innovation of information technology at the core of agricultural and rural informatization development, cooperatively promotes the original innovations, the integrated innovations and the re-innovations after introduction, and comprehensively enhances the innovation capabilities.
The results in these pilots are quite good with available commercial conditions. Currently, Sichuan Mobile is carrying out a large-scale promotion in the yak distribution areas of Sichuan province, and this project can spread to Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other yak distribution areas in China, as well as Russia, Kyrgyzstan and other extremely cold grassland areas in mountains with high altitudes, low air pressures, short warm seasons, long cold seasons, shortage of oxygen and forage grass, and other extremely harsh ecological environments.

The project has improved informative management level of quarantine and breed optimization for the local animal husbandry administration bureau. It has reduced the risks of theft and straying of yaks for local herders, enabled visualized monitoring of pastures to drive reasonable grazing and sustainable development. It also has enabled traceability for meat products, thus improving meat quality and raising its price to generate higher income for the local herders.

By constructing this project, China Mobile Communications Group (Sichuan) Co., Ltd. ("Sichuan Mobile") keeps on serving the " Three Rural Issues", and brings into full play of technologies such as the Internet of Things in prospering the rural economy and contributing to poverty alleviation, in order to narrow the digital gap between urban and rural areas, make farmers' income continue to grow, and promote the accurate poverty alleviation.
