A harsh digital divide between households still exists, as 1.3 billion households out of 2.1 billion in the world still don’t have any broadband connection. WTTx - “wireless-to-the-x” solutions, supplies fixed wireless access for broadband with lower cost and wider coverage, enabling unconnected households to access and use public and private services, such as utilities, education, health and transportation, which definitely brings great benefits to society. As the innovator and main contributor of WTTx, Huawei brings the new concept of WTTx and generates the first batch of WTTx networks and households and makes the industry chains become mature. Huawei contributes more than 60% of new broadband connections of WTTx for households and engages as major vendor in 78% of WTTx networks construction around the world.By 2018, WTTx provides fixed wireless broadband access service to 75 million households (40 million under Huawei network) under 230 operators (Huawei engages in 180 of them as major vendor), around half of these households coming from low-income countries. Beyond wireless advantages, WTTx solution delivers broadband connectivity in remote areas and rural area of countries with very low population density. Through this solution, household of rural and remote areas become more educated, healthier and economically prosperous.

For last 4 years, Huawei have been devoted into developing an innovative way of broadband connection, putting forward as “wireless-to-the-x” (WTTx), which uses wireless to provide fiber-like broadband access for households. Beyond reusing resources of existing wireless networks and advantages of wireless without digging trenches and installing cables underground, it’s a way of broadband connection with the characteristics of low cost, instant deployment, and can be deployed both in suburban, rural and remote areas.WTTx has the characteristics of low cost, rapid deployment and quick return on investment. WTTx is the essential way of broadband connection other than fiber, cable and copper, and it is suitable for a wide range of areas, from densely populated urban centers to sparsely populated rural areas. And nomads or people living in rural or remote locations in developing countries could benefit from wireless home broadband of WTTx to have equal opportunity in accessing Internet society.More than 230 operators have deployed WTTx around the world and the accumulated WTTx user numbers have reached 75 million globally. It shows that the model can be deployed all over the world on larger-scale andWTTx will continue to develop the home broadband for household in sub-urban, rural and remote area, and facilitate to bridge the digital divide around world, especially in Africa, South America and Asia.
Through WTTx broadband access, mobile operators can help their consumers become more educated, healthier and economically prosperous. This in turn leads to benefits for mobile operators themselves: nurturing educational and business opportunitiesin the urban, rural and remote community generates economic activity and commercial creativity that is beneficial to the entire economy. With the continuous evolution of wireless technologies(LTE A, 5G, for instance), WTTx will provide better performance and offer full HDTV services and multi-play services to supply higher speed broadband with lower cost and drive revenue growth of operators. WTTx will not only connect more households, but will remain a more promising business opportunity for operators.
Huawei contributes more than 60% of new broadband connections of WTTx for households, which are difficult to get digital connection on wired line broadband for barriers such as mountainous area, remote area, and high broadband price etc. Huawei also contributes to 78% of WTTx networks construction all around world, more than 2/3 of which locate in Africa, Latin America and Asia. By 2018, WTTx provides fixed wireless broadband access service to 75 million households (40 million under Huawei networks), around half of these households coming from low-income countries. Beyond wireless advantages, WTTx wireless home broadband solution delivers broadband connectivity to remote areas and rural area of countries with very low population density. For instance, Mongolia is the world’s 18th largest country, yet ranks 239th in population density at around 1.9 people/km2. Mongolian communications operator Unitel cooperated with with Huawei to provide its rural and remote area customers with broadband of WTTx, which provides services such as TV, Internet, telephony services, etc. This initiative significantly improves the penetration of home broadband from 2% to 10% justly in one and half year. And nomads or people living in rural or remote locations in developing countries could benefit from wireless home broadband of WTTx to have equal opportunity in accessing Internet society. Taking Mongolia as an example,: more than 2000 herders are receiving up-to-the-minute weather forecasts and information on the latest foraging and farming techniques; their productivity also increases. More than 1,200 small and medium-sized businesses, namely 28% of them have used the solution to help build websites.74 hospitals are witnessing improved healthcare service owing to Internet enablement of online consultations. It is expected that 560,000 Mongolians will be using online healthcare by the end of 2018. Nearly 35,000 rural medical personnel have received continued education courses by WTTx Internet connections.
