Sunolo Sakhi is a knowledge delivery intervention of Practical Answers, a wing of Practical Action India. This initiative delivers knowledge on menstrual hygiene among the young girls and women in the slums of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is an innovative designed intervention with using traditional radio and mobile usage of young girls at large. Aiming to spread awareness and bust taboos, especially in slum areas, the radio show have been designed to take the first steps in educate people about menstrual hygiene. The LIVE PHONE IN show in a local community radio was conceptualized to bring about the young girls to a discussion platform. The project started with 15 slums initially with focused group discussions and forming SAKHI Clubs (Sakhi means Sisters). All the Sakhi clubs started having regular meetings and our social mobiliser does focused group discussions on the basic hygiene practices. Further all the doubts and questions of all young girls are being addressed in the weekly radio programme where our expert answer all the questions come through the radio show. Rest of the week, the audio recording of the show is being podcasted among those who could not listen the radio programme. In a short span of three months we reached out to 2500 girls and women through the Sunolo Sakhi radio show. We produced 24 episodes of 30 minute each with 8 questions average per episode.
